Terry BrooksAt the end of the 70s the first really commercial fantasyauthor appeared. The novel was called The Sword of Shannara (1977) and the author was the american Terry Brooks (working name of Terence Dean Brooks) (1944-). The novel was followed by The Elfstone of Shannara (1982) and The Wishsong of Shannara (1985).The first novel in the series is about a magician that comes to a village to find the lost son of an elfking. The son is the only one that can use the swore of Shannar and save the world from evil. The son sets out on a quest to find the sword together with same perculiar friends and will go through adventures and danger. The second series about Shannara: "The Heritage of Shannara" consists of The Scions of Shannara (1990), The Druid of Shannara (1991), The Elf Queen of Shannara (1992) and The Talismans of Shannara (1993). The plot takes place around 300 years after the first series and is about reestablishing magic in the world In 1996 a prequel was published, it takes place about 500 years before the first series of Shannara and one will meet the elfking Jerle Shannara. The book is called The First King of Shannara. The first novels about Shannara is very much carboncopiens of Tolkiens stories, which is why critics havn't been that found of Terry Brooks, but this probably doesn't matter that much since he has becamed one of the bestselling fantasyauthors. Besides the novels about Shannara, he has also writen a series which is more in the humourous fantasy genre, "The magic kingdom of Landover", the series begins with Magic Kingdom for sale/Sold! (1986).
