Lyon Sprague de Camp
Lyon Sprague de Camp (1907-2000) was an american that is known for his humourous fantasy. Together with Fletcher Pratt he wrote the popular humourous series of Harold Shea, starting with "The Incomplete Enchanter" (1940).In the different stories Harold Shea is thrown into an alternative world based on myths and legends. The series continued as de Camp worked on the stories together with Christopher Stasheff.
The other main series by de Camp/Fletcher was a collection of humourous short stories which were later collected in the volume "Tales from Gavagan's Bar" (1953).
Lyon Sprague de Camp has written over 120 sf&fantasy books and several hundreds of short stories. He started out writing science fiction after the depression and his first published story was "The Isolinguals" (1937) which was published in the magazine Astounding Science Fiction.
After World War II de Camp started to focus more on science fiction, but in the end of the 50s he wrote more fantasy again, starting with completing works about the Conan character by Robert E. Howard.
de Camp has also written a series called Novaria, consisting of "The Goblin Tower" (1968), "The Clocks of Iraz" (1971), "The Unbeheaded King" (1980), "The Honorable Barbarian" (1989) and a novel that takes places in the same world but is free-standing: "The Fallible Fiend" (1973).
